A Spanish World Champion?

Seems like a bit of a row has blown up about the citizenship of World Champion Viswanathan Anand. He was due to receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Hyderabad but this was delayed because either the Indian Ministry of Human Resources Development believe Anand is a Spanish citizen or they simply failed to process the required paperwork for such an award to take place. Of course the reality is that Anand plays under the Indian flag and travels on an Indian passport, but if India does not want him, I'm sure Spain would be happy to put him beside their World Cup winning football team as another Spanish World Champion.
